Software talking to each other – how does an integration platform enable cutting-edge software services?

Software and data are a key resource for any business today. Each system focuses on producing a certain added value, and contains functions and information relevant to that added value.

Software alone can bring benefits to a company’s operations, but the best benefits are only realised when:

  • the data and features of the systems can be “integrated” into a logical whole
  • the information provided by the systems can be used to build services with tangible business benefits
  • systems are efficiently maintained (for example, so that a given piece of updated information does not need to be edited in more than one information system, from which it is automatically transferred elsewhere)

In other words, when different systems and applications can be integrated with each other.

The importance of online services and the demands of end-users on them are constantly growing. It is reasonable to argue that well-managed, high-quality integrations are an essential foundation on which to build such advanced online services.

The iPaas (integration platform as a service) systems aim to address the need to develop high quality integration implementations as outlined above. They are solutions designed specifically for the development, management and maintenance of software-to-software integrations. They also provide a common implementation approach for all integrations in an enterprise.

Mediasignal uses the modern and scalable Frends integration platform for its iPaas implementations. For example, Frends can be used to:

  • build automatic mass references between several different systems
  • build event-based workflows, where, for example, the data of a created product is automatically exported from the target systems to the publishing channels
  • build customised interfaces that combine information from many different source systems

With Frends, we deliver consistent, high quality, long lifecycle integration implementations that are conveniently managed from a single location. Building on such a high-quality integration platform is a good way to build top-quality online services that meet the end-customer’s needs.
