Headless e-commerce solution enables a completely new customer experience
Mediasignal continued its collaboration with Polarputki by implementing them a headless public website and a B2B e-commerce store, including a product information management solution based on Akeneo PIM. The development of the online store was initiated when Polarputki wanted to offer its customers the possibility to buy online, regardless of time and place.
With the e-commerce solution, Polarputki was also looking for a more secure order processing model, more time for customer service for salespeople and, of course, the visibility that the e-commerce solution would provide in various digital channels. Our goal was to build the best online store for the steel wholesale side.
Tero Ahtiainen, Production and Logistics Director of Polarputki, considers the project very successful.
– We even exceeded the project’s goals, as we expanded the implementation based on the needs that arose during the project with Akeneo PIM, which again brought additional possibilities to this implementation and our other operations. Even though the project was larger than originally planned, the cost impact was reasonable, says Ahtiainen.
ERP and PIM as a data source
The web service customised for Polarputki enables a completely new customer experience for Polarputki’s customers. Key benefits of the solution include pricing and ordering logic that interacts with the ERP system, the automatic updating of product information on the site from the Akeneo PIM, and the fast user experience provided by the advanced headless solution.
The online store included customized pricing and purchasing logic in line with Polarputke’s business, ordering logic integrated with the ERP system, customer-specific pricing and an Outlet page where outlet products can be automatically picked up through ERP integration. At the same time, Akeneo PIM was implemented as a centralised product information management platform, from which product information is also automatically transferred to the online service. The public website was also integrated with WordPress, allowing Polarputki to maintain and update the basic content displayed on the site.
In the future, the centralised product information provided by Akeneo can be used, for example, in automated price and catalogue printouts and mobile applications.
